Saturday, August 10 is Glendon’s biggest day of the year. If you don’t have a car ready for Derby don’t worry. You still have the opportunity to drive in the Derby. Once again, Kacey from Glendon Tire has built two derby cars to be raffled off. For just $10 you can win a chance to drive in the Derby with a ready-made vehicle. Tickets are available at the site and all proceeds go to Girl Guides.
Kids World will feature a Cardboard Box Derby this year. Kids 12 and under can come and choose a box and compete in a race. Age categories are 10-12, 7-9 and 6 and under.
The popular Beer Gardens will feature music by Cold Tie Walker. There will be the usual concessions and displays by STARS and Glendon Motorsports.
General admission is $15 and $5 for kids 8 and under. Parking is free, 2 miles north of Glendon.
The Pancake Breakfast is 8 to 10 in the Glendon Arena lobby, the Parade goes at 10. New for 2013 is a Pyrogy Lunch put on by the Minnie Lake Conservation Society. The lunch will begin at 11:30 am on Railway Ave beside the old blue Tire Shop. The Farmer’s Market starts at 11 and the Derby and Mudbogs will get underway at 1 p.m.
We could still use more volunteers for the day. Contact Sherry at 780 812-6414 if you can help out. There will be a volunteer appreciation supper for all volunteers on August 15 at 6 p.m. at the Derby Site weather permitting (Hall is the alternate location).
For rules and information you can check out the Glendon Demolition Facebook page or call 780 812-6414.
